What
is a Direct TV Access Card and why do I need it?
In
learning the lingo of satellite TV there are many
unfamiliar terms. As
you try to learn more certain phrases seem to be repeated
and you will hear the term Direct TV Access Card mentioned
more than once.
(To skip
our Direct TV access card comments and go right to our

A Direct
TV access card comes with each DirecTV satellite system.
It is required to allow DirecTV to capture billing
information that is specific to your account.
It provides security information and allows you to
control the use of your system (parental controls).
Your
Direct TV access card contains a microprocessor that
allows it to act as a processor for your satellite
receiver. It
is essentially your key to your satellite system and
allows you to access all the channels.
As a
consumer you should be aware that many companies on the
Internet are offering direct tv access cards.
These “DSS Test Cards” are illegal in Canada
and the United States so use caution.
It is usually a better bet to deal with the company
that supplies your satellite equipment.
