direct
tv dss access card: Unique functions
A direct
tv dss access card is a small, credit card size, computer
board that came with your receiver. The direct tv dss
access card test will fail if you have not yet called your
program providers to establish service. We'll discuss this
more below.

Because
your unique direct tv dss access card number is attached
to every pay-per-view event that’s recorded on the card,
only the movies ordered through your system will be billed
to you. Your phone line should be continuously plugged in
because direct tv does its callbacks to download your
pay-per-view data at random times during the month. If
direct tv is unable to reach your system, the information
can’t be downloaded.
The
direct tv dss access card fits in a small card slot
located at the front of your DSS receiver. They are
essentially small computer boards that include a RAM, ROM
and EEPROM. Their function is individualize each DSS
subscriber and allow them to view channels that they are
subscribed to and scramble other channels. These cards can
be reprogrammed to "test" all channels
available.
When
installing the direct tv dss access card and a test card
device is inserted into a receiver, it is important to
COLD BOOT the receiver. This can be done by pulling out
the plug for 5 minutes and then replugging the unit. The
power switch WILL NOT do, as it usually cuts only the
video signal and the display LEDS and does not cut off
power to the card.
